Frequently Asked Questions About 3D – 5D Ultrasound Sonograms

What is an ultrasound and or sonogram?

Ultrasound is a non-invasive procedure involving the use of sound waves to see internal images within the human body. The technical term for an ultrasound image is sonogram and the words are used interchangeably. One of the most popular uses for ultrasound is at pregnancy to ‘see’ an unborn child to determine gender, establish the general health of the baby and or screen for possible complications. In traditional ultrasound, often referred to as 2D ultrasound, black and white images of a developing baby fetus are produced from bouncing sound waves within the womb.

What is the difference between 3D and 5D ultrasound?

3D ultrasound is special software that generates realistic 3D sonogram photos of a developing baby from multiple sound waves taken at different angles. 5D ultrasound uses advanced scanners that go beyond 3D sonogram photography by not only generating photos of a developing baby, but observe real time movement and record it onto video.
